For the Olympics, McDonald’s is planning to open its largest restaurant ever for six weeks during the 2012 London Olympic games.  The 3,000 sq meter monster fast food joint will be in East London, near the Olympic Village but will not be permanent, with plans to take it down after the Olympics. The restaurant measures  32,292 square feet and about half the length of a football field. There is seating for 1,500 patrons and it is planned for 2,000 staff, who are estimated to serve more than 50,000 Big Macs and 180,000 servings of French fries. The mega McDonald’s is to be ready in time for the July 27 Olympic opening ceremony and will be taken down sometime after September 9, when the Paralympics finish. For the ninth year in a row, McDonald’s is a top-tier sponsor at the Olympics and will be the only branded food in the Olympic Park and Athlete’s Village.    This time around, the fast food giant has some high-minded goals to go with the project. The expansive restaurant will be built from recyclable materials, and, since it’s inspired by an athletic event, will incorporate a large-scale promotion aimed at making children healthier.
